Ghana Tour - Itinerary - Sights
This following itinerary of our 3-week is just an example. It is possible to plan an individually Ghana trip.
1st - 2nd day: Arrival in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Accommodation outside of the city in a typical guest house that is located under palm trees right next to the sea. The second day in Ghana is reserved for getting used to the environment and relaxation. Bathing, lying in the sun and getting first impressions are on our agenda.

4th day: A visit to Kakum National Park in the morning. On hanging bridges that are up to 150m high, the canopy-walkway and the paths of the park, you will explore an impressive rainforest that offers a unique eco-system. With a little luck you will see forest elephants, buffaloes and giant wild hogs. Continuation of our journey to the beach guest house in Butre, where you will stay the night.
5th - 6th day: Butre’s beach is among the most beautiful in Western Africa. There is only our accommodation and a village of fishermen, which makes for a romantic, idyllic coastline.
Activities in Butre (Canoeing on the River Butre to the mangroves, visiting an old German fortress, nocturnal hiking along the beach to Busua, a town with beautiful beach bars, small shops, hotels and restaurants). We will leave the coast on the 6th day and go to Oda Forrest, where the largest jungle giant of Western Africa grows. Its sight is overwhelming. Overnight stay at Oda Forrest.
7th day: We go to the Ashanti region. Via Kumasi to Lake Bosumtwi, one of the youngest meteor crater lakes on earth. The region’s unique location and vegetation make this lake particularly interesting. Here, our accommodation for the next five days will be the Rainbow Garden Village (RGV), which is located right next to the lake. In the evenings, music and dancing will make for a cozy get-together.
8th day: Exploring local villages (meeting with “the King’s representatives” from Anyinatiase, fishing tour) and individual leisure time (African drumming, dancing or cooking workshops available on request).
9th - 10th day: Hiking around Lake Bosumtwi. We will walk roughly 17 km on foot each day and set up camp on the opposite side of the lake. The tour will be accompanied by local aides and a hiking guide. Adventurous paths and impressive landscapes make this hiking trip an experience you will never forget.
11th day: Today’s destinations are Bofuom National Park and the caves of Kwamang. Bofuom Wildlife Sanctuary offers a living space for chimpanzees, elephants, baboons, leopards, civet cats and water buffaloes. The Bomfobiri waterfall and the caves of Kwamang are in the close proximity of the park. They are home to a large number of bats. This pristine region is rarely visited by tourists and thus extremely intriguing.
12th day: Trip to the small Bobiri National Park. This nature reserve is probably the region with the oldest and most pristine forest in Western Africa and widely known for its many different butterfly species. On our expedition through the forest, an expert guide explains the medical uses of many plants and trees. Our overnight accommodation is the Bobiri guest house right in the middle of the rainforest.
13th day: We leave the Ashanti region early in the morning. Our destination is Buabeng-Fiema National Park and the Kintapo Waterfalls in the northern area (approx. 3 hour drive). For approximately 160 years, black-and-white colobus monkeys and guenons have been protected and revered in the Buabeng National Park. We can directly witness these animals on a ramble through the park. Sometimes the monkeys can even be taken for a walk on your shoulder. Overnight stay at the small guest house in Buabeng-Fiema.
14th - 16th day: Mole National Park is the destination of today’s trip (approx. 4 hour drive), where our accommodation is the integrated guest house. The next morning, we leave for a safari walk (on foot) through Mole Park, which is 2500 km2 wide and the only park in Ghana, where you can watch large animals (amphibians, reptiles, lions and elephants) almost up close. In the afternoon we set up camp in the wild. We go back to Mole guest house on the next day early in the morning.
17th day: We leave for the south of Ghana again. Our destination is Akosombo. As the trip from Mole to Akosombo is very long, we stay the night half-way in Tehiman and have time for various breaks and encounters during our trip.
18th - 19th day: Arrival in Akosombo, the last stop in our round trip of Ghana. Viewing of Lake Volta and Boti Park. Lake Volta’s dam is Ghana’s main supplier of energy and dams up Lake Volta on a total area of 8500 km2, making it one of the largest storage lakes in the world. On our tour of the dam, we also get an insight into the inner workings of the hydropower plant. In Boti, we can explore Umbrella Stone and Boti Waterfalls. Accommodation at the guest house.
20th day: Return to Accra. The local arts and crafts market offers an opportunity to buy a nice souvenir of Ghana. Ghana says Mekwaaba – See you again. Flight back to Germany.
